Westchester Goose Repellents

Your best bet at keeping those Westchester geese of your property is to make sure that they don't end up landing in the first place! A good way to do so is by using decoys. Here are a few decoys suggestions:
• Coyote effigies
• Wolf effigies
• Reflective tape
• Something that can reflect light (ex. CDs)

This method can only be effective if you place the decoys somewhere that is visible for the New York geese to see while they are in flight. Therefore, you should avoid placing them in places such as trees where they will practically invisble to them.

Scare Tactics
But what if the Westchester bird has already landed and/or made a temporary home in your proprety? Your next solution would be to try and scare them away. However, it should be emphasized that Westchester geese are extremely territory and will be appear aggressive when they feel threatened. So, you should try and physical scare them away. Thre are better methods to use which are:
• Loud noises
• Fireworks
• Air horns
• CDs with distressed geese sounds

These are all good methods but only up to a certain point. The problem with this type of method is that it is only effective if you keep making these loud sounds and noises or else they will eventually land again. However, it is unlikely that you can keep doing this for long periods obviously because of all the noise you will be creating. Besides being unpractical, it may also bring up legal issues so checking with your local New York authorities is a good idea before you proceed.

Dogs
Dogs are quite effective at keeping Westchester geese away! Some breeds are absolutely great at it such as:
• Border collies
• Sheep dogs

Many companies now have employed dogs in order to keep New York geese of their property by chasing and harrassing them. There are services specifically hired just for this purpose.

Alternative Suggestions
However, if you are still unable to keep those geese away after having used the other methods mentioned above, then you can use these suggestions:
• Carefully wave a large towel or flag close to them.
• Call local wildlife experts to have them professional removed.

Despite the challenges that Westchester geese present, they are still very beautiful and majestic birds in the wild and we should not think of them as pests but as creatures that deserve our respect. Thankfully, Westchester geese are migratory birds and will be gone sooner or later anyway.
